The Story Behind Hearts on Fire
Sometime in between my family trips to Southern California to walk through the gardens with my hand-holding grandparents and attend middle-of-the-night watermelon parties hosted by our Opa… between going to Ernie Jr's every single time we visit (grandma & grandpa's favorite family restaurant!) and staying up too late to hear another real-life fairy tale through Oma's thick German accent, a dream was planted in me.
From 958 miles north, in Portland, Oregon, I grew tired of only having a few days a year to soak in the incredible, never giving up, selfless, giving, beautiful relationships that my grandparents had formed over decades. I yearned for the ability to get caught up in the middle of it all, flipping through the pages of their story while snuggling between them on the couch.
Before I was given that opportunity, the Lord called my Oma home. With my Opa running his fingers through her hair, holding her hand and telling her, "I love you my Lony, my wife, my girlfriend…" and surrounded by her children and grandchildren, through which their love legacy lives on. My Oma & Opa were married for 50 years, and Opa ran back into her arms only a year and a half later. My grandma & grandpa's marriage lasted 53 years, before grandma moved from this world to the next, leaving my grandpa with a Sharlene-shaped hole in his heart but all that much more love to spread around.
Hearts on Fire is for them. It's for my parents, aunts, uncles, cousins…it's for my husband. And the generations to follow us.
is to enhance marriages by exposing and expressing our most intimate emotions & feelings, simultaneously bottling up and releasing love into the world and to future generations.
is to provide experiences for couples that draw them closer, strengthen their bond, and lead them to falling in love again & again. And to create beautiful photos in the process that will not only bless the couple, but bless their children and grandchildren as well.
Oh, what I would give to have more incredible images throughout my grandparents' marriages that show me their love as I got to see & feel it. Beyond just their wedding day...10, 20, 50 years into their love story.
That's why we're here today.
(So, my husband Zach is the most wonderful husband for me. He made this video. And this video makes me blush. I debated whether or not to put it here, because he really is far too kind. But alas, here it is.)
